Your health - your body - your mind

Research commissioned by the International Stress Management Association UK and Royal Sun Alliance revealed that 53% of people are suffering from stress at work with one in four workers needing time off as a result.  The research also showed that over half of those questioned felt that stress was damaging their health and reducing job satisfaction.

According to a survey carried out by the Confederation of British Industry on absence and labour turnover, stress has become a primary reason for absence from work with an average of 7.1 days sick leave being taken each year.  Stress related disorders such as chronic back, neck and shoulder pain, headaches and hypertension account for a high percentage of annual absences. In a survey conducted by the Institute of Management, it was found that 14% of all workers said stress caused them to quit or change jobs.

To work at your best you have to feel your best

How On-Site massage can help alleviate stress at work.

Since work induced stress is commonplace, it makes sense for employers to provide some means of stress relief direct into the workplace.  More and more employers are offering their employees opportunity to benefit from on-site massage treatments.
The Touch Institute, at the University of Miami, reported that a basic 15 minute massage provided twice weekly, resulted in decreased job stress and a significant increase in productivity.  Workers were more alert, performed better and were less stressed than those who did not receive a massage.  Tests on the study participants also showed a reduction in blood pressure and stress hormones in the saliva. Those workers who received a massage, completed mathematical problems in half the time as normal and with half the errors they had prior to massage.  A control group who were allowed to close their eyes and rest as a means of relaxation showed no improvement in tests.

How is it carried out?
On-site massage requires a quiet room with a chair and space around the chair large enough to move around the client, with a small table to support a head rest.
It is a short treatment, usually 15-30 minutes, and can be carried out fully clothed if preferred. Even a massage as short as 15 minutes can prove beneficial, increasing circulation and stimulating muscles and thereby releasing tension in the back, neck and shoulders.
It will revitalize the recipient and contribute to an overall sense of well being.

What are the costs?
Many private business’ are seeing the benefits of on-site massage and buying ‘packages’ for their employees, seeing the benefits as cost effective in terms of profit. For further details about massage in the workplace, please complete our enquiry form.
You may never have considered receiving a massage at work or perhaps you feel that you
are too busy to make time. However, remember that prevention is better than cure.  The
negative effects of stress are fast becoming one of the most critical factors which affect the well being of most employees in the workplace.

Stress is widely recognised as one of the most common causes of absence from work. Current estimates suggest that UK employers lose £20 billion from missed deadlines, sick pay, under achievement and poor performance.
